Snowflake

Measures about 10 inches (about 24 cm) in diameter

You'll need:
Size 7 steel crochet hook
Size 10 cotton crochet thread (Mine is Aunt Lydia's Metallic)

For stiffening:
Elmer's glue (or fabric stiffener, if you prefer)
pins
a cork board and freezer paper (or whatever you use to block your pieces)

This is my first pattern like this, so I apologize if some of it is hard to understand. Feel free to ask me any questions if you're having problems.

Make a Magic Ring

R1: sc 7 in ring, join with a slip stitch in the first sc

R2: ch 11, triple-treble in same stitch, *triple-treble in next stitch, ch 4, triple-treble in same stitch* Repeat around, and join with a slip stitch in the 8th chain from the bottom. (seven v's made).

R3: *8 sc in ch 4 loop, sc in between next two trip-treble stitches* repeat around. Do not join.

R4: *Ch 14, sl into 3rd ch from hook (picot made), ch 10, dc in the middle of the sc row below, ch 12, sl into 3rd ch from hook (picot made), ch 12, sl into sc below (the one between the two trip-treble stitches)*

R5: sl in each of the next 12 ch, sc in picot, {ch 20, sl into 11th ch from hook, ch 18, sl into base of last loop, ch 10, sl into base of last loop, ch 10, sc into picot, ch 14 [ch 6, sl in 6th ch from hook, *ch 7, sl in 6th ch from hook*, repeat * twice, **(working on the other side of the chain just made) sl in next 2 ch, ch 6, sl in 6th chain from hook**, repeat ** twice chain 3], repeat [] twice, sl into base of bundle, ch 14, sc in picot below}, Repeat {} around, join by sl into the first sc made in the round. Bind off, weave in ends.

To stiffen:
tape down freezer paper on top of cork board, smother the snowflake in Elmer's glue, lay out on paper and pin down. Let dry overnight.
